What is Echo Long Beach? |
We believe the city of Long Beach is rich with cultural and artistic history,
which continues to influence and inform our community.
In response, the vision of Echo Long Beach is three-fold:
| - |
to re-examine the past in order to better understand our present;
| - |
to call artists into action, to create innovative artistic expression for a more thoughtful
interaction with the personal, political, spiritual, and social aspects of culture and community;
| - |
to cultivate community by involving people in a dialogue that explores what is considered
relevant and meaningful in art and in life.
To re-examine the past... |
Echo Long Beach believes that as individuals, and as a community,
we live, not in isolation, but always in the context of a continuing
story. By re-examining the stories within which we are participants,
we gain a better understanding of who we are today, we celebrate
the journey that has made us, and we critically evaluate
who we are becoming.
To call artists into action... |
Echo Long Beach provides innovative, creative, and practical
opportunities for people of all ages to experience the arts hands-on,
challenging us to a deeper understanding of ourselves, and our larger
role in society. This involvement in the arts provides the underlying
framework for a more active engagement in all areas of life and culture.
To cultivate community... |
Echo Long Beach is designed to be a catalyst, we are continually
creating and fostering a community of artists who support and challenge
each other. We are encouraging discussion about culture and
art-making and we are engaging our community through high-quality,
innovative, and culturally relevant actions in the visual arts concerning
issues that are affecting our community and our world.
Our exhibitions are crafted to challenge, question, or extend concepts of
cultural renewal and to articulate socially relevant positions concerning
the personal, political, spiritual, and social aspects of culture and community.
